media tech

September 28, 2008 by javanrichardson

So the first and the second chapters were pretty much like watching paint dry. I think anyone who is anyone knows know technology is changing and things are going in different directions from what they used to be. that goes for technology and the types of media. the younger generation has come to a point of only getting their information whether that be with news around the world or what going on with Britney Spears. It is true, the young generation is out of time. we don’t have time to sit and read the paper or to watch the 6 o’clock news, we want it fast and in a hurry and perferably in route of something we have to do already meaning, getting on line to write a blog, I may as well see what is on the head lines of MSN or some other search engine.  My granny still waits and watches the evening news but i don’t feel like i have time to do that. I know I do, i just don feel like I do. Perhaps when i am retired and just waiting for the next big thing to happen while sitting on my porch and watching the cars drive by Ill sit and look at the paper but until then, Im rather content with my blackberry letting me know bad weather is coming or who just got out of rehab.

new media tech( one laptop for every child)

September 20, 2008 by javanrichardson

Its official, I’m an 80’s baby and I’m coming to understand what its like to think like an adult and have concern as to what I would and would not like my future children to have access to. With the changing of times and the unlimited access that the Internet provides I’m not sure that I would be comfortable with my child being exposed to that kind of media. Given, that is why the child has an adult that should be involved in what the child is into however, as a working mother that I plan to be some day, I don’t see being able to look over my child’s shoulder all the time to insure nothing is being filtered into my child’s knowledge prior to his/her maturity level of acceptability. I too was young and on the Internet when my mother was not around and let me tell you, i can honestly say I probably sawsome things at a young age that my mother would probably give the “bad idea look” to me for. I understand that the world is changing quickly and that technology is pretty much over taking the world and by the time i have children, they are going to need to know how to type a 6 page assignment by the time they are in the fifth grade however, I want them to still be able to appreciate the things in life that don’t require being plugged in just for them to be able to access what now days children call entertainment.

my first blog

September 9, 2008 by javanrichardson

Well, I have never really done this whole sit down and write about what is on my mind for any one who is anyone to view it on the web however, it is opening new chapters for what i am knowledgeable of doing. I am a communications major and some how I feel into being a pr major. It was not a personal choice, but it is something that is helping me decide what field to go into for my career. To be completely honest, I already know that doing anything that involves public relations is not where my life is headed but it nice to know that I do have a small amount of interest as well as education for what public relations jobs entail. My focus subject is going to be the American red cross. I’m not sure why or even how I chose this subject but as we all know the ARC does a lot of great things for a lot of people in natural disasters and under uncompromising conditions so I figured this would get me a lot more aware about some of the things that the news does not inform the public of or go into enough detail on whats going on with some of these families. I’m excited to see what happens in the process of this educational study and  perhaps it will provide me a deal breakers when it comes to what career path I may choose.

obama obama obama

November 12, 2008 by javanrichardson

so as I’m sure we all know that Obama has been presidential elect and will begin his reign in next couple of months and it is rather disturbing. ’ way siked about him being president but i was a work the othernight, and there was a man sitti and talking about excited he was for hne president and everyone agreed and went along with converstions and out of no where the man ask” so you know whats going to happe right?” confused we all turned to himand asked what he meant and he replied ” well, you know he is going to get assasinated right” and in shock ” I said “No i had no idea people were saying that. and that is when he went on to tell us he was from tenn. and he was in some bar there and a widespread debate broke out about how people would feel if he became perseident that a man said that he would probably be killed because there are too many people in the world that still dont accept different races lead alone a African American President. How scary….

Should we be worried…. comm. degrees?

I think we all know that most of the jobs with our economy being the way it is in  trouble. And most of our peers or mentors tell us that if we want to do something in life we need to have a education and with out education we still need to push ahead with a masters or a doctorate in something to ensure we have our jobs on lock. but is that even possible with the major we have choosen because i am sure that with the way technology is advancing there isnt going to be  a need for a dj or a switch operator or maybe even actual human interaction for news reports and etc,. There is a low demand for emplyees and a high demand for work and things just arent evening out for most fields. I always planned on comming to college and now that I am here i dont feel like this will be enough for me to either find a job or maybe even keep one.  My self and one other person in my family went to college and yet everyone i know still has a job and has kept one regardless of what is happening in the economy. Im in college and I am soon to graduate and I wonder will i even be able to find a job to be able to pay off the loans i had to take out to be able to give myself the chance to secure a career in the job field? I iknow i couldnt have come this far in vain but am I really going to be able to do what i have set goals for myself to do without worrying about a computer being smarter and fas less expensive to do what I thought i would be able to have a career doing? The level of insecurity placed on my shoulders as i walk across the stage in acceptance to the thousands of dollars spent for a small documentation representing my education background. Will it all be worth it or will i still be living paycheck to paycheck in the long run, the same way some of my family or friends do without the education background that I possess??Or should i even be worried at all??

is my vote accounted for???

October 28, 2008 by javanrichardson

The election has clearly been taking up alot of Americans time as well as televison prime time programming which has grown into a weekly reaccurance. I personally have not been keeping up with much of who said what and who wants to do what with America due to me being at work during most of the debates but the other day i had an urge to just get involved. Like i have said in past blogs, i dont stay on top of what is going on in politics as much as i should because it just isnt something I find to take my attention. But  i just wanted to see what i could find out about helping with a campaign so i went to the democratic head quaters to volunteer. I recieved pamletes about the canidates so i could know what has gone one most recently and i would from there be able to make a decision to help out with the campaign. After reading the information and speaking with one of the Obama advocates i decided it would be best just not to get involved with this election stuff because there are so many things in America that need to be changed and it just seems as if both the democratic and republicans have down falls and it would not be far of me to partially support one and partiallt support the other. I may just be to open  minded but i cant go againt what i believe and just stick with one side. so Im just not going to pick a side. Is that right or not?

should everyone be allowed to vote

October 28, 2008 by javanrichardson

So my granny is the only reason i know anything about politics at all. When i was younger she would always say, you should always know who it is you are voting for when you get old enough to vote becuase there are so many people out there who make these uneducated votes based on if the person if young or old, has a catchy slogan or not and so forth and i never really understood what she meant because i was not yet old enough to vote. but this year i am old enough and i understand the whole idea of why you really should only be able to vote when you are educated about the election process and what not. The other day i had a table while i was at work, who asked if i was going to vote and if so did i know who i was going to vote for and i said ” well im registered to vote, and i would like to , but i need to find out a little more before i cast a vote for anyone” and the guy at my table says” well you know, I understand getting educated about it first but you know you already have one thing on you side. I wasnt really sure what he meant by that so I asked and he said ” well Obama. Obama is already on your side.” Puzzled i just stared at him and thats when he went on to say well hes black so he can be your voice in America and it would be the first time we had a black president.” I honestly could not believe what was coming out of his mouth. And whats sad is thats really is how alot of people think.  Just because he is black means i should vote for him, and to me that is the dumbest thing i have heard in my life. Have people failed to realize just because of his color does not mean he will represent what i believe in and how i think America should be ran. Not to mention hes a man so our anatomy wiring has a thing or two to do with thinking a bit differently also. Not saying that just because he is a boy we will have different ways of thinking but his idea of running America will be ran from a male perspective and that is different for the way females think. not saying it is any bettter or worse. .just different. but the mere idea there are people in the world who are able to vote and they are only voting because they see commonality in their race or their gender not in the mond frame of what the person wants to do for America. People like that should be kicked.

new media tech

September 17, 2008 by javanrichardson

I have come to realized that i am not a technology savvy as i would like to think. I am stuck in the “old fashion” side of computer and cell phone technology that do all kinds of crazy things and such. I love jumping on line just to check face book or to read a message that i have on my email, but i didn’t realize how much all the technology now days has in so many words “taken over the world”i don’t have any children and with the way technology has picked up I’m sort of glad i don’t because things are just going to fast in my opinion. It is so easy to jump on line and access pretty much the world at my fingertips and for someone who doesn’t know much when it comes to what I can a cannot do,i feel overwhelmed when i have to do something that requires going on line or using something that is technologically advanced. I feel that if I can get on line and just push a couple of buttons and pretty much do everything short of showering and exercising, then that’s where i have to draw the line. I get afraid that after so long technology is and will pretty much take over. It getting to the ppoint already that businesses don’t even have to have an associate call in reference to business, all they have to do is set up an operator and it will call and leave a message as to who just called and or why they have. Or even when i call to talk with someone on say my electric bill, there is no way I’m going to be able to just talk straight to an agent, I have to go through the recording machine first and that is just absurd. I worry the next generation will become so lazy that even the jobs that are available will disappear because people feel that technology is a cheaper “more efficient” way of having things done. With that being said I’m going to hold on the my “old fashioned” way of thinking in hopes that we all don’t get caught up in what I like to call ”the unrealistic approach of never having to do something manually anymore” idea.
